I've been heavily criticizing Kinect ever since it was announced; however, over the holidays I had the opportunity to actually purchase one from a friend of mine for the low price of $50. So far I only have Kinect Adventures, but I have tried various demos. I decided to do this blog post to give my impressions on the Kinect so far. Now, please remember that this is entirely my own personal opinion on Kinect adventures and some of the demos:
Kinect Adventures-
The games are simple. If you play by yourself they will be dull and boring; however, they are incredibly fun party games. I had a family gathering over Christmas and it certainly was one of the highlights. The lag is noticeable, however, I found that it really didn't matter for this particular type of game. It was responsive, fluid, and it did impress me (since I thought it'd be complete crap).
Dance Central Demo-
The demo only had two songs so I can't really talk a whole lot. The camera is responsive and detects you're moves accurately. Only of my smaller cousins (who's 7) tried it and it worked perfectly so there's no doubt that Kinect works with both children and adults (and everything in between). It's a fun rhythm game that will probably keep you entertained even if you play by yourself. Of course, playing with a crowd is always better for these types of games.
Kinect Sports Demo-
I found this game to be a lot more responsive than Adventures. What can I say? It's a simple sports game that focuses on gestures. Sure, it nowhere near Sports Champions, but it's a fun game that will keep casuals entertained.
Kinect Joyride Demo-
When I first heard about this game I thought it would be the worst of the worst; however, I was pleasantly surprised. The game controls well and it is fun at times. One major problem, however, is that your hands really get tired after a few minutes so it's a game you'll only play every now and then.
Sonic Riders Demo
I simply could not understand how this game worked. I honestly tried my best but it was just not responding. The Kinect would not detect when I leaned back and forth and it would not detect when I tried to use any of the items. If anyone's had similar problems, I'd love to hear about it. Perhaps there's a solution.
Overall
Kinect does what it needs to do right. It appeals to the casual audience and it's games will certainly be great fun for that crowd. Dance Central is the only game I'd even consider buying at this point. Still, it really is fun controlling the menus with only you're hands (as limited as it may be). Personally, I'm hoping the core titles next year are actually good. Project Draco looks like it has potential.
So that's it for now. I just wanted to give some general impressions without going to deep into each game. I'll do a more detailed blogs on this subject later. For now all I can say is Kinect accomplished it's mission but fail the hardcore. It's technology is not the best, but it works. I'd give Kinect a 6/10 for now (I'll do a more detailed review at a later time).

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
The problem I have with DC is that it is 'detecting' your moves and not 'tracking' your moves. I know this is a failing of the software not the hardware but its enough to make that a non buy as well.
The 'coolness' of controlling menus by waving your hands wears off REAL quick btw.
I'm disappointed in you Saaking. You used to be cool, and I find you here playing kinect. You've let us fellow sony soldiers down.
____________
Sony 'til I die
ive had the chance to play something i heavily critisized without playing it. You basically admitted your a moron who gives his opinion on things he hasnt tried pathetic. I have kinect and move and they are both great in my opinion. Im enjoying both equally id say although if i ask my family and friends what they want to play when they come over and its always kinect.
There you have it Saaking. It based on the responses from your fellow sony buddies. Honesty is not important! You must support "MOTHER SONY" regardless to what's true and what's not.
This shows you how quickly the people that support you one day will turn on you the next. However I think you are still best served by keeping it real and being truthful rather than not being true to yourself by blindly agreeing with a bunch of PSyCOs. Good for you Saaking. Bubbles!
I didn't notice that you tried to not get too excited in your review as they would have really come down hard on you. Smart move.
I played it at my sisters house yesterday and I thought it was great fun. A perfect casual experience. I hate to admit it, but this is the best thing Micro could have done for there business. They really nailed it with this one. I feel sorry for the hardcore 360 fans though. Micro is done with you guys. They know the formula well now. Release Halo, COD, and Gears and you guys are happy playing those game all year. Don't disagree with me because y'all know it's true. Gonna go play some Kinect hurdling now. See ya.
